FRYSC Corps members are based in Family Resource and Youth Services Centers. Full and half time members act as reading coaches, and may work with students from kindergarten through the 12th grade who are at risk for academic failure. Members plan and host literacy events. In addition to reading, members may also be asked to tutor in other academic subjects. FRYSC Corps support their host FRYSC with service projects. Since the FRYSCs goal is to help remove barriers to basic needs that prevent students from learning, service projects should be focused to meet specific community needs. FRYSC Corps members are also asked to support long range literacy needs at their host site by recruiting and training volunteers to act as literacy coaches. They also recruit 12 volunteers to support FRYSC and school programs during their service year.
